Dave Frum serves as mate when Emmet isn’t available. Dave has been a National Park Service Ranger on Portsmouth Island for many years and is always happy to share his stories with our passengers.
The Windfall is a traditional 57’ gaff-rigged schooner offering daily cruises from the Community Store Dock on historic Ocracoke Island, North Carolina. She is inspected and certified by the U.S. Coast Guard for 30 passengers. Although she looks and sails like the vessels that plied these waters in a bygone era (or, according to some, like a pirate ship!), she is fully equipped with all the modern conveniences to ensure your safety and comfort.
A Tarheel native, Rob Temple has been a licensed captain since 1978. He has owned and skippered the Windfall since he bought her from designer/builder, Bob Marthai, in 1985. Ocracoke has been his home port since 1993. Having acquired the reputation of an authority on Blackbeard, he was featured in the two-hour History Channel documentary True Caribbean Pirates in 2006.
Emmet Temple, the captain’s teenage son, has been sailing on the Windfall since he was three days old. He has served as mate since 2007.
